SHOULD I HIRE A PROFESSIONAL REMOVALIST?

It's a tricky one! Moving the contents of your home seems straight forward and something you can manage, and you may be able to manage just fine. However, moving home is rated as the third most stressful event in one's lifetime... so the answer to the main question is, it depends.

professional removalist

A furniture removalist is like any tradie you might hire. There are ones who are good at their job and there are some who are not so good. With a professional service you get accountability, especially if the business you go with is owner operated.

Fitting all your belongings into a truck or two, in a time and space efficient way is something that is a great skill. Keeping your belongings safe and protected at the same time is an even greater skill.

There are a few factors that play a big part in deciding to hire a removalist or not. Finances, timing, distance, total volume... and of course, reliable removalists.

So when looking for your removalist, be sure to do some research and look up the reviews on Google, Facebook, Instagram or even ask your friends and family who they have used and what their honest thoughts were.

Local businesses are more likely to be owner operated - meaning they are more likely to care about their company!

Then there is the local factor. If you are moving locally, consider your local removalists first. They will most likely know the area very well, be the most efficient and cost effective and will also most likely be the ones who will care about your belongings as if they were their own. Larger companies may have the name and size, but because you don't need a trade certificate to move furniture, you could end up with someone who is lacking in the skills mentioned above and end up with breakages or damage to property.

If you are moving long distance and your local company is pricey (because they have more labour involved in the move), consider doing more research into which larger company you choose to engage with. As said before, you could end up with a few different people working on each end and without any gauruntee of experience, it could cost you in time and money in the long run.

IN SUMMARY

If you are able to fork out a bit extra and go with a local removalist, you will have a positive experience. These businesses are mostly likely owner operated which means the removalists themselves are the owners  and they will care about how things are done, how the client is feeling and about time and money efficiency.

It is also important to support local companies and businesses who go the extra mile and care about the local community.
